My name is Norma Engel. My husband Jack and I presently live in Troutville, VA, which is only 8 miles from Roanoke, VA. This is in the beautiful Roanoke Valley between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Alleghany Mountains.
A very lovely part of this great country, the USA.
We moved here 10 years ago from Florida where we lived for 40 years.
My love for Shelties came from a friend in Florida, who had a Sheltie. From the time I saw Beau I was infatuated….. I finally found a nice little Sheltie for myself. Her name was Foxfire's Shaded Glory. I really think Glory came from a back yard breeder. We purchased Glory when she was 15 months old and she didn’t bark at all. She stayed in a corner all the time. When she finally came out of the corner she explored every corner of my house and swimming pool area. Finally we convinced Glory that she had a great life and then her heart was mine. Glory had a stroke when she was six years old and passed to the Rainbow Bridge.
I was heartbroken.
I searched and searched for another Sheltie. I finally found a breeder Dori Gibbs (Stadler now). I convinced her that I needed one of her Shelties. She had a six month old girl that she was willing to sell me with a contract. Her name was Molly. I willingly signed the contract that stated that I would breed Molly when she was two years old to a boy of Dori’s choice and give her pick puppy out of the litter. Well, I took my sweet Warmwinds Forever Fancy “Molly” home that day. I’ve stayed friends with Dori, and the result of Molly’s breeding gave me sevenbeautiful puppies (all girls).
We placed two beautiful little girls with a nursing home in Plant City, FL, where they made everyone very happy.
We placed another beautiful puppy with the Rose Family in Ft. Myers, FL. They named her Maggie.
Dori took Warmwinds Sunspun Ribbons, Warmwinds Sunspun Delight "Taffy",
and Warmwinds Make Mine Mink home with her.
Warmwinds Lil’Bit of Mischief “Missy” stayed home with me.
All four of the girls we kept earned their Championships
and some were multiple Best of Breed Winners.
Molly, Missy, Ribbon, Taffy, Mink, and Maggy have since passed.
I was truly blessed to have had the opportunity to raise that very special litter.
Missy went to the National Sheltie Show in Lincolnshire, IL, when she was three years old and placed third in the Open Sable Class. Missy was a Mom twice.
Morgan lived with me until her passing to God's hands on March 22, 2013 at the age of 13 years and 7 months old.
Morgan was a Mom once to six beautiful babies.
Ch. U-Ch. Warmwinds Bourbon d'Bear OA OAJ CGC "Teddybear" who lives with Karen Salvage in Florida,
Warmwinds Summer Heart, lived with the Darby Family in Ft. Myers, FL until her passing in 2015
Abigail lived in Beverly Hills, CA, with the Duff family in 2015
Warmwinds The Trail Blazer "Scout" lived in Florida until his passing in 2013
Warmwinds Sweet Cherry Wine "Cheri'" also lived in Florida.
And my beautiful Warmwinds Wine and Roses “Rosie” lived with me until her passing in 2015.
Rosie had the misfortune of a debilitating injury
when she two years old and well on her way to becoming a Champion.
Rosie was very pretty, and very special to us.
She was our house dog and lived the life of Riley.
Morgan’s babies have passed to the Rainbow Bridge where they play with their Mom.
My friend Susan Brillhart and I co-own my Hartwyn Foxglove Lil’ Liza Jane who is now 9 years old.
Liza is a very special lovely girl who is shy.
She however, became a Mom just over seven years ago.
The sire of the puppies is BISS Champion Conbrio Legends All Shook up,
a most handsome guy!
Susan and I have a girl from that litter, Champion Warmwinds Hartwyn Autumn Blaze who is seven years old.
Autumn lives with me. She is a cutie.
Her three brothers live in Florida, and South Carolina.
We also have another delightful girl. Her name is GoldenHylites My Fair Madeline. Madeline is quite the girl. She has so much fun and delights in playing with Liza and Autumn even when they don't want to play.
Madeline comes from The GoldenHylites Kennel and Nancy Tibben, both a Sheltie breeder and Judge in Canada.
All three Shelties: Liza, Autumn and Madeline live in our home
and are members of our family.
We still have our sweet memories of Molly, Missy Morgan, and Rosie.
Shelties are herding dogs; and they are guardians for sheep and humans alike.
The AKC standard notes that they are from 13 -16 inches tall at the shoulders
and weigh 16-25 pounds relavent to their height.
They are most adaptable to a small apartment or a large farm and most any other arrangement in between.
Although Shelties normally have great temperaments and are trained very easily, raising dogs is a little like raising children. How they turn out depends a lot on the adults in their lives. One can't judge by breeding alone. The responsibility lies with their owners. Shelties are special in my opinion.
Sometimes when they are youngsters I see them looking at me as if to ask
"What is it that you want me to do? Just make sure I know - and I promise to obey"
The idea is to be sure they understand!
All of our Shelties are selectively well bred, AKC registered, healthy,
well cared for, good mannered, and loved.
They have had hips, eyes and other health tests as needed.
We breed to the best dogs we can locate to improve the Shetland Sheepdog Breed
according to the AKC Standard.
And we usually only breed when we want another puppy for ourselves,
and never more than twice in the life of the Mom.
Of course a few puppies must be placed in other loving homes.
All of our puppies have health checks and immunizations and
have been extensively handled, played with, and groomed for many hours and weeks
before going to new homes with their special families.
A baby book of photographs taken each week goes with them.
We are most selective where they go and they are placed with a spay/neuter contract that states
if for any reason that home/family can not keep the dog, it must come back to our home.
We keep in touch with our puppies and their owners all their lives and on occasion visit with them.
We believe that people have dominion over the animals, that animals are part of God's wonderful creation.
God breathed the breath of life into the animals and He values them highly;
in fact God loves ALL His Creation.
One of the major jobs God gave us is to take good care of all the animals.
Our Almighty and Gracious God hates it when animals are abused or killed for sport!
see Genesis 1-28-30 or e-mail me (see below) for other Bible passages that prove this statement.
TO OWN A SHELTIE IS LIKE NO OTHER EXPERIENCE!
THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL, INTELLIGENT, INTUITIVE, GENTLE,
A GREAT SIZE FOR A HOUSE DOG, AND THEY ARE EASY TO CARE FOR.
THEY ATTACH THEMSELVES TO YOUR HEART AND THEY GIVE YOU EVERYTHING THEY HAVE!
THEY NEED SOME GROOMING AND BRUSHING, BUT NOTHING DIFFICULT THAT A LOVING OWNER EVER MINDS DOING.
